MRP or not? Private Health Care or Not?
We are considering Malta for retirement next year and trying to decide between the Maltese Retirement Program (MRP), and being an 'ordinary resident' subject to normal tax rules. Financially for us there's not a big difference, and by the time we arrange private medical insurance (a requirement of the MRP scheme) it could be that being an ordinary resident is better. But what about the quality of health care as an ordinary resident of Malta? (we are EU residents, so can use the transferable health care rights from our 'home country', we believe). Can anyone comment on this please - any information or guidance much appreciated!

Hey there... I hope someone else can chime in on this as i'm not the best on the Maltese health care for foreigners thing as I am a citizen of Malta myself and have Maltese health care...
Anyways, the quality of health care in Malta is comparable to other EU nations, so the public health care is fine from my experiences and my grandfather's, who has had extensive medical procedures done through the public health scheme, and has been happy...
If you are in a position where you can obtain Maltese public health care-i'd go for that option rather than paying for private health care...
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful on this one!
