Default Relocation and recruitment companies

Hi everyone,

Me, hubby, 2 year old daughter and bump are thinking to move abroad over the next few years (the sooner the better). Ideally France or Malta.

We were wondering if there were any relocation companies that can help with general advice together with some good recruitment companies for finding jobs. He is British and I'm Romanian/naturalised British.

If any other similar families read this message, it would be great to chat to some of you about how you made the move and the pro's and con's for everything!

Many thanks, Maria.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!
It isn't advisable to come to France without a job lined up already, esp. if you've got two young children in tow. You don't say what your OH's line of work is, and whether he speaks French, but research on the unemployment situation in France where priority is usually given to English-speaking French candidates for any jobs going. And if you intend to rent, you'll find that French landlords want proof that your regular monthly income is 3-4 times the rent before considering your application.
If I sound pessimistic, I'm simply being realistic. Take a look at the Read-Me: Moving to France FAQs near the top of the France forum to learn about most aspects of living in France. It's cheaper than consulting relocation companies!
Good luck with your decision!

Hello, I live in Malta and I'm sorry to add to the previous pessimism, but I would not recommend moving here without at least something to tide you over. Despite the fact that English is widely spoken, you will almost always (understandably) lose out to those who can offer both languages, which of course, a lot of of Maltese do. Expats do find work in bars and restaurants and teaching English as a foreign language is also another useful option. There is also some call centre work with banks and betting companies.

Other than that, unless you can offer a specialist skill (Graphic Design is one that springs to mind that seems in demand) you might find that you struggle. Sorry that I cannot be more encouraging, but it is best to be prepared. I did not move to Malta until I was sure that I could (mostly) support myself and have been very glad of that.
