Default How can I get ID card in Malta?

Just arrived in Malta, moved into my newly purchased flat and it seems you need an ID card for absolutely everything. Was told I can't open a local bank account or even have a telephone without one as phone numbers are linked to ID card numbers.

SO
1. How do I get an ID card
2. How do I open an account wit a Maltese bank?

I have a UK passport, not currently employed and unsure if I will find employment locally so a can't go via employer route.

Just seen your post, and also scanned through your previous queries.
Obviously most folks in a new environment have particular concerns from time to time, but the first thing that immediately struck me was how very elementary your queries were, and that you obviously had done little or no homework - which is absolutely essential when moving or purchasing property in another country.
Regarding your query on acquiring an ID card, I had absolutely no idea, but 45 secs later all was clear. Wishing to be helpful, HERE's the link I found.
Honestly, buying a property without knowing the very basic requirements for an adopted country is fraught with danger.
However I wish you (much needed) luck in your new venture.

You need the eResidence card. The ID card has now been restricted to Maltese citizens only. All non-Maltese nationals, including EU citizens, need to get the e-Residence card. Since you are unemployed but own your own flat you will apply under the 'Economic Self Sufficient' category. See Residence

The policies regarding application for residence have been updated very recently as per the home affairs site so i'd only trust that link; most others will be out of date.

Hope this helps and welcome to paradise.
