Can I as a disabled person live in Malta?

Basically I would like to live in Malta as a EU and British Citizen, but I am disabled and unable to work and don't have much savings. Is it possible for me to live in Malta under those circumstances?

Hi Newlight1. Self sufficient looks like the best option but take a look through on gov.mt website. http://www.foreign.gov.mt/default.aspx?MDIS=552

WHat exactly is classed as being self sufficient? I get my ESA Contribution which is £105 per week, is that enough?

How would I afford rent?

Not on your £105 a week income that you mentioned on another thread.

It means what it says, i.e. as an E.U. citizen you can pay your way, abled or disabled.

If you read the link that maltaman put in his message for you then it will answer your question, as far as I can see your income will be sufficient to be able to get residency in Malta, whether it will be enough for you to pay rent and bills etc is another matter

Yes that is true. I would have thought though that with the UN Convention on disability rights that those EU Citizens who are disabled and disadvantaged would be given some kind of extra help or support that an able bodied person does not need if moving to another EU State that they are a citizen of.

It may be worth mentioning -- though this is depending on what level of mobility one has -- Wheelchair usage or difficulties walking will present frequent challenges in Malta. The pavements here are (at the time of writing) notoriously difficult to negotiate. Occasionally (outside of tourist areas) they are not much more than rubble, and sometimes very narrow. Some pavements that look like they are in a good state of repair can be deceptively slippery. Walking long distances can feel like a game, or sport, sometimes. Another thing to consider is access to buildings, often stairs are the only option.
