3). We are thinking if we should sell our UK house funitures and applicances or ship them over to Malaysia. Can I ship them to Malaysia with my tourist visa?
This may be possible as some shippers only ask for a tenancy agreement. And some have got a tenancy agreement on a tourist visa.
4). Are normal standard furnitures/appliances cheaper than UK? Where's the best places to shop around?
I find appliances to cost a little bit more if they are good ones, as they are usually imports then and subject to high levels of tax. If you don't mind a Pensonic rice cooker that might only last 6 months and has pictures of cats or flowers all over it then you can get cheap appliances. I bought a lot form SenQ which is a appliance chain store and if you wait until they have some deals can get some nice stuff at a reasonable prices.
5). We initialy want to stay in mordern service apartments for the first year, get to know the local community and how things work before we eventually look for a mordern bunglow type of property. Which areas are the nice service apartments and bunglow?
Will depend on which part of Malaysia you want to live in, and can then be answered very quickly. Your problem is not going to be the areas in which to live, but could be getting to know and become part of the local community. I came to live in Penang for the place not the people. As you have kids I think it will be a lot easier to fit in though.
Not sure what the law is now, but a few years ago I walked into an HSBC in Mok Kok Hong Kong and opened up a bank account. My address was in mainland China at that time, but seeing as HK has no banking links with the mainland, I was officially a foreigner to HK and might as well of had a UK address.
