Where to live! KL tips for the house hunter...

Where to live! KL tips for the house hunter...
Hi all, so I've now finally got here now I need to decide where to live! I'm thinking as I'm alone it doesn't really matter as long as the apartment is nice, the area has plenty of shops, restaurants, etc.. because I'll be making friends and will eventually get into the social life of the local area where-ever that may be.
The two places that keep coming up as good potentials are Mont Kiara and Bangsar, near the Bangsar Shopping Mall. Saw a nice place at Sri Panaga the other day, but am biding my time to try make sure I make the right choice.
Anyone got an opinion, advice, maybe it's easier to tell me places to avoid?
