What about mooncakes?
 

I don't like them. I know there's a lot of different sorts, but the ones I've had seemed really heavy and stodgy.

I had a century egg one about 20 years or so ago and haven't eaten them since.
This year my wife forced me to eat a champagne one and a durian one and they were very nice.

I'm sure they're not very traditional but have you tried the snowskin versions? Not much help to you but Raffles sells some really nice ones :D

I know what you mean about the stodge - I can manage a little slice of the traditional ones, they're like sweet/sickly pork pies to me.

edit: Durian. Nice. Not two words you'll often see me pair up.

We were given a box of mooncakes at the Singapore Hilton one year. They were a bit eggy. Only had a little morsel but thought I'd swallowed a lump of concrete. To be fair tho, I'm not a cakey person.

Today is Mid Autumn Festival day. It's not a public holiday in HK today but tomorrow! So people can go home after work tonight together with family members observe the beautiful full moon while enjoying the various mooncakes, pomelo fruits and wine under the clear sky.
Unfortunately it's cloudy tonight and maybe a shower or two.
Yesterday at the Wing On Dept store in Central one sales promoter asked if I'd be interested to buy some Abalone Mooncakes!!!:eek:
I only like the lotus paste with egg yolk, hehe:thumbsup:

China is of course afloat with them at present! We are in Tinjin on holiday and last week visited Shenyang and Tieling (wife's birthplace) and they were everywhere as mentioned!! Some are pretty pricy too!
One or two a year does me!
