Here’s a tip:

For a quick and free guide to what’s on in Penang, pick up the weekly ‘Penang Free Sheet’ – it’s an A5 double-sided mono printed newsletter, available at hotels cafes etc. in George Town, Tanjung Bungah and Tanjung Tokong every Friday.
It covers stuff like cultural events, festivals, free cinema shows, art exhibitions, hiking and walking tours.

You can also receive the newsletter by signing up at the website:

THIS HAS HAPPENED

Penang striker's 'physics-defying' goal now famous worldwide [VIDEO] | New Straits Times | Malaysia General Business Sports and Lifestyle News

So amazing! And I am also amazed, that Penang again plays in the 1000 years old Bandaraya Stadium in the heart of Georgetown. I remember they moved to Batu Kawan (aka the end of the world) some years before.

Ha ha.

Just read this thread and went down to look for the Free Sheet in the lobby and there it was tucked away out of site.

The new week starts today, btw.

Hi ex reg,

Whilst you are in Penang I strongly recommend a visit to Kek Lok Si Temple one evening to see the Chinese New Year ‘display of lights’. Monday 22nd February will be the last day.

It’s very spectacular in a kitsch sort of way.

We drove up to the Penang Hill funicular late in the day and on the way back intended going to Kek Lok Si.
The traffic was horrendous even I suspect by Penang standards so we gave it a miss.
Could see it from our hotel though.

Coming back from the airport at around 7:45 last night the queue for Kek Lok Si tailed some way back along Jalan Masjid Negeri almost back to the underpass. Given the narrow roads and limited parking around the temple it will be one car out one car in all evening and the last car in the queue probably didn't arrive until after dawn.

Monday is the last night of the Chinese New Year holiday but according to our taxi driver the temple will remain lit for an additional 2 weeks and the traffic will be much lighter after Monday.

Thank you. I did this last week and received the latest edition a PDF file yesterday. I don't like the letter font they use, but if you magnify it enough you can read the contents.
