I plan to go from JB to Fraser's Hill, staying there a couple days then to Melaca and then back to JB. What suggestions do people have for
Bus v. Train v. Plane v. Taxi. I need to take at least 2 - unless I did taxi's the entire way which is a bit crazy for my situation.
You can't get the bus or train (or airplane) to Fraser's Hill but you can get to some place somewhat close and take a taxi the rest of the way. Or you could take a taxi from KL... It seems somewhat annoying to go to KL by plane, then bus to Kuala Kubu Bahru (KKB).
An infrequent train would be somewhat annoying (just having to tie everything right or wait a long time), but I can't tell if the train to KKB is more like a "commuter" train that runs somewhat frequently. I could take the train from JB (though it is a pretty slow train). The plane flight is pretty cheap and fast if I can then take the train to KKB and then a taxi that might be best. I only got one taxi quote from KL to Fraser's Hill but that was too much, maybe getting another quote would get a cheaper rate.
I don't mind taking the bus, but I don't really like changing busses in KL - it is too chaotic and crazy. If I have to I will... And the bus from JB to KL takes a long time (I just did it a month or two ago) - I thought flying was a bit crazy for places so close, now I think maybe the plane is the best option. The JB airport is very small and easy to use.
Anyway any suggestions people have (including taxis to call) I would appreciate. I am set for hotels already.

Are you sure there's enough to do at Fraser's Hill to warrant the effort to get there, especially if you don't drive.
We've often considered a trip there from Singapore and we drive ourselves, but in the end it was just too much of a problem.

Probably, but I would rather not. That would be the last option.
On the next person's question:
Fraiser's Hill has nice hiking trails. I'm not exactly Walden - taking years to appreciate the woods - but yes I can be happy hiking around on some nice trails for days. But I do enjoy warm showers, a comfortable bed and nice food, so day hikes are my preference.
I want to do more hiking this year, so if people have suggestions (in Malaysia or even the surrounding countries) please let me know.

Kota Kinabalu? I've not actually been there, but hear rave reports.
