Default Teaching at Mutiara International Grammar School

I have an interview in London next week for a teaching position at this Malaysian school - Mutiara International Grammar School.
I was looking forward to the interview, however, I have read some very negative posts about this school.
Please can people provide me with some current advice?
Thanks

Hi there,

I too have an interview in London next week for this school (it is the KS1 position). Like you, I have read some very negative comments too.

Which position are you applying for?

Hi I have applied for the secondary geography/ history position. There's so much bad press from parents and comments about the poor facilities but I have not found anything from teachers really.

It doesn't seem like it employs many expat or British teachers currently and the pupils are mainly local Malaysian pupils it seems.

I am not sure what to do!? It’s a big decision there is a lot I would like to find out about the school before committing to anything.

Is this your first international post? Have you had many other interviews?

Nothing I'm afraid! Google everything... Look for a recent report, see if that tells you anything- also ask in your interview, tell them you've read some pretty negative parent feedback and why this is! Like you say, it's a massive decision for you!

Expect to interview them, rather than the other way round!!

When was the closing date for your application?

Thanks

Yes it will be my first international teaching position, and it's the first interview I've had. I'm just finishing my NQT year now and most int. schools seems to want at least 2 years experience so I can't afford to be too picky.

I found one blog from an ex-teacher, which was similarly negative to the parent's views. I'm being intrviewed on Monday. I'm not sure how long they give us to commit if they offer us the job so have been trying to find things out beforehand so I know if I'll probably take it or not.

I'm just really keen to get abroad teaching this year and it seems a lot of teaching positions have already been filled. I moved too slow on one in Ecuador and lost out...

What's your position, are you currently teaching in the UK?

Hi,

I don't think I'm going to go for the position as I will be taking my family with me. I am a Secondary Geography Teacher.
Good luck with the interview!
I would be keen to hear if I have made the right decision, if you get chance, let me know how it goes?

Hi,

I have been considering this school and am interested in the negative comments that people have been reading. Are you able to send me a link with some recent information? I tried searching 'mutiara' on the forums but nothing came up.

Thanks,

Gusta

Hi Gusta,

Just type in the name of the school on Google and reviews. It should come up with various Blogs and sites.

Thanks Alex,

It seems that there were some incredibly angry people in 2009, some slightly angry in 2011 but there is not that much recent information. Has anyone there got some opinions about what is happening there at the moment, including the new head?
