Default Stonemason jobs in Kuala Lumpur for Brits?

Hi all.

I've just joined this site as im toying with the idea of travelling to Kuala Lumpur when its safe to fly again.
Im a U.K. based stonemason too and having heard such good things about the country i was wondering how easy it would be to secure a job out there should i apply for one. Obviously i understand there would be a visa requirement. Does anyone work in the construction industry and know if i could find employment?

Thanks in advance.

Hi PetetoKL,

I work in the construction industry in KL as a brit architect and I would say that finding employment in the construction industry is not very easy at the moment. But work is still moving.

Getting a work visa is getting more difficult I heard. I am currently on a long term social visit pass that allows me to work. When I renewed it recently, they informed me that they no longer give 3 year visas but 1 year visas maximum only (so would need to renew yearly).

There is no harm applying for a stonemason job here and seeing if the companies you apply to helps you in getting a work visa. The company usually has to state why they are employing you to the local authorities.

The construction industry here is not so black and white compared to back home. Health and safety for many private client jobs are not taken so seriously unfortunately, different if it is a government related job. A large population of workers on construction site are foreign bangladeshis, not so much locals. I find that many of them know malay, but there are quite a handful who do not speak english. But you'll find that even locals in Malaysia have language barriers amongst themselves.

Do note that salary in the construction industry here is usually lower compared to UK.

All the very best!
