Social Football & Squash Ladders
#1

Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone on the boards played in any kind of social football team (expat-based or not), or knew of them?? The only one I've heard of is called the ExpatriateLions, most of whom are Scottish.
I have heard that the big sporting/country clubs have football teams, but we're not even considering these types of clubs till we're more settled or have met people that have experience of them.
Also, wondered if anyone knew of squash ladders to join? - I guess these might be posted locally at sports centres......
Thanks!

I heard that Arsenal or Man Utd and Liverpool had Malaysian variants of their teams. I dont know if they're unofficially using their trademark or if they're an affiliate of the real team. Anyway, have you as a so called "first world" football participant, considered coaching Malaysian kids. If you're interested i know of a malay guy who competes regularly in a league. hes an avid footballer, watches every single premiership game and perhaps has the making to do something in his footballing career. He also is a bit of a charismatic sort of guy so quite marketable. Maybe you should return to UK get some FA coaching badges and then look me up. I'll introduce you to his team and perhaps you can take a huge training session involving all teams competing in his town. It is a large town consisting of many institutions of higher education and there is great potential for you to maybe blood one or two of the guys he plays with into the proffesional league. I played casually with some of his friends. and some of the skills of one or two is very high. In particular one young man whom im sure it wouldnt be much of a problem bumping into again. Anyway just a thought bro haha good luck. I just thought id share with you some of my experiences in Malaysia. I'm of Malaysian origin myself partially, so thats why i got a lot of info which most Expats wouldnt get. I'm looking forward to going back to malaysian in the next few years, to work, though its very tough to get a job in finance. im going to try and look at some other English speaking countries first like Canada, Australia and Singapore to save a bit of money before i eventually return to Malaysia, but Malaysia is my first choice for obvious reasons. If i get a job elsewhere i'm likely to return to Malaysia once i've saved enough money to start my own business, probably outsourcing management decision making in financial department in some offshored external Asian owned companies to another location in Malaysia or perhaps to a lower cost destination lilke Batam Indonesia.

Hi Dolapreneur - thanks for the reply, really I'm just looking for social games nothing as serious as coaching!

I will be moving to KL in September, I play sunday league football and as much as I'm prepared to have a massive lifestyle change I'd still love to be able to join a team and go for a beer after the game. Good luck and i will keep an eye on this thread.
