Ah no, I don't have the Sports version.... don't really need that for trips to Tesco and Batu Ferringhi. The only thing I didn't like was the horn which was pathetic and sounded like a wet fart. So I've had that changed to a much louder one. You do need a loud horn in Penang y'know
It's all those motorbikes that get in the way.

Oh you do make me laugh Bakedbean. How do you change your car horn?! I didn't know that was possible.
My Kia Cerato had a great horn but the Sorento has a really pathetic horn and I hate it. Also no use for the psycho drivers and motorcyclists in Johor/Singapore!

Well I didn't go through the Suzuki dealer
. Just went to a local garage and said I wanted something loud. It's very effective.

rented a Proton for a couple of weeks while waiting for delivery of our car. Do you know what? It actually gets us from A to B and back to A again!
Agree with bakedbean about Topgear ,in UK anyway, being show for kiddies. Used to be good years back.. but its trying to be a comedy all the time now.and the show's all scripted.Nothing 'just happens', as they want you to believe.

We looked into importing last year - mainly because I'd bought a second-hand Jaguar XF - it was 3 years old and cost around £19K. The cost to import it into Malaysia was over £40K!
You have to pay 3 taxes (1 of which is the duty). I can't remember which is which. You start off with the invoice value of the car, then you have to add the cost of shipping it to Malaysia plus the insurance for the shipping. .

No problem Geedee. The truth is I honestly don't know! I guess it could mean the list price when new or the actual invoice price second hand. Of course, if you bought privately, then you may well not get an invoice! Don't know how you would prove the price in that case. Bear in mind I believe there is still the proviso that you have to have owned the car for 3 years anyway.

As I said, that's what I was told. Don't know for certain as I don't have one to sell
Having said that, in 2005 I was working in the UK with some Malaysians and they said then my 3 year old S-Type would fetch around RM1/2M!

My son bought a brand new Perodua Alza 3 years ago, now 50k+ on the clock and it's been a dream. Normal maintenance + one minor item, can't rememer what is was but it was small. A year ago I bought a new Wildtrak. Confortable to drive, takes like a duck to flooded roads and has a reversing camera built in to the mirror.

I have a car which w bought 3 years back at around 8,000 MYR. Will I pay 110% on 8,000 MYR or depreciated value......secondly it will be 110% import duty or lower than that?

Where did you buy the car? If you paid 8,000 MYR presumably you bought it in Malaysia? If so, then there should be nothing else to pay. If not, then do you mean you are moving to Malaysia from another country? If so and you are importing the car, then as I understand it, the starting value is the invoice value of the car (so I assume that will be the 8,000 MYR - ignores depreciation) then you have to add the cost of shipping plus insurance. That value then has 30% added; the next value depends on the cc of the car, the maximum is 105% (for > 2.5Litre - if less than 2.5L then the % is lower); finally, the new figure has 10% added to arrive at the import value. I think I have remembered the figures correctly - it was a year ago when I made enquiries, so I may have made a mistake somewhere! The 3 figures are for Tax, Duty and I cannot remember what the third one is. You can check with Malaysia Customs for the exact calculation.

Dear Bluenose1
Thanks for the info. I bought the car in India in INR. I had quoted an equivalent value in MYR ( 8,000 MYR).
regards
