Hello all,
Does anybody have any hotel recommendations for Port Dickson? We may stay there for 5 days or so prior to starting my new job as we don't want to venture too far after a 14 hour flight. Don't want to be splashing out too much but we have a 2 year old daughter to consider. Any other recommendations for things to do/places to eat there?
Thanks : )

I was going to reply to Jill's post number 4 on the following thread
http://britishexpats.com/forum/malay...ickson-795011/
But as the thread is closed I'll post here instead.
Jill suggested the Bayu Hotel in Port D.
We stayed there for a night recently and like many beach hotels in Malaysia some of the rooms have been sold to individuals who use them or let them out after they've been 'done up'.
The Bayu is an old tired hotel now, and the front desk staff, some of them anyway, are rude others are very friendly. We'd give the hotel 1 Star.
Anyway we also stayed a night at the Avillion Admiral Cove which was a much nicer Hotel, 3 Star for us, and the cheaper of the two Avillion Hotels in PD.
We looked at the Grand Lexis from the outside, didn't like it.
The Thistle looks very nice judging by the public areas. We didn't book this because we thought it too far from PD cental but iah it's fine and if we went again we'd go there.
The PD Waterfront, in the town center, was good as well with lots of new restaurants and bars. The rest of PD has lots of local coffee shops restaurants most of which sell Ikan Bakar and we found these places a bit disappointing.

Hi
I've stayed at Grand Lexis. Note that there are two side by side: The 'Grand Lexis' and 'The Lexis'. I went with wife and two kids and we really enjoyed our stay. The in-room mini-pool is great and we were in it almost all the time when indoors! Room was very spacious with kitchenette.
So although it may not look all that from outside, it was an enjoyable stay.
Regards
Abdul

Hi all,
Last weekend, over the Labour Day break, the wife and I - and apparently, ¾ of a million other like-minded fellow idiots, I mean, people from Singapore - decided to make a mad dash across the Causeway/Second Link & into Malaysia. After the horrific 3 hour choke-point at Sultan Abu Bakar Immigration Complex, it took us another 4 hours to reach our weekend getaway destination at Port Dickson.
We chose to stay at the Avillion Port Dickson (Address: 3rd Miles, Jalan Pantai, 71000 Port Dickson). There are 2 car parks - and we were lucky as we managed to find a space at the on-site car park. The off-site car park is across the road from the hotel. Both are very safe, with Gurkha guards and the car parks were gated.
We chose one of the Premium Water Chalets and were pleasantly surprised by the whole concept: it was a small studio with a king sized bed & a day "Pangkin" bed (good for young 'uns), built on stilts that overlooked the Straits of Malacca. The room was spacious and had an outdoor Balinese-type of shower. There's also a balcony where you could enjoy the sunset with a good cigar and a glass of wine.
The hotel is clean and the staff ever helpful. However, the rooms are starting to show their age a bit. The 2 deck chairs on our balcony looked like they've never been cleaned before, and was plastered with bird poop. Nothing a call to Housekeeping wouldn't fix, but we really shouldn't have had to make the call in the first place.
Similarly, the bathroom, although very well designed, was - sadly - a little mouldy and had the smell of mildew. Housekeeping fixed that as well, so no worries there.
We went for a 3 day break, and 2 of those 3 days were spent relaxing at their excellent Avi spa. We went for the signature couples massage, and interestingly, after the herbal wrap, we were told to hop into the bathtub in our birthday suits (of course, we waited until the 2 masseurs had discreetly left the room)! It was quite an experience, and quite unexpected in what we thought was such a conservative Muslim country as Malaysia.
The food there was excellent. We didn't feel the need to head out of the resort for local fare - we were spoilt for choice at the in-house restaurants. Our room came with buffet breakfast, and amongst other things, we had Roti Canai freshly prepared by a very stressed out (but still extremely, professionally friendly) chef - it was such a busy time at breakfast!
There are 2 swimming pools - one's a family-type pool, with screaming children, a water slide and "jacuzzi" tubs (but sadly, none of them worked) - we gave that pool a miss - and headed straight for the "Cochin" adults only pool. That was a far better experience, and the thoughtful staff there even provide you with bottled water while at the poolside. Excellent, excellent.
Overall, it was an extremely enjoyable stay. We paid about RM850 per night, which we felt was excellent value for money.

Sounds quite pricey but, on the other hand, you cannot take it with you. Good that you enjoyed it.
