New British bar opening at Straits Quay Penang.
Finally!
Blue – the new rooftop bar at Straits Quay, opens to the public tonight (Friday), following its soft opening party yesterday. Only seven months behind schedule, but never mind - proper real ale at last.
Blue is a JV between Duffy’s – the UK micro brewery, and YBH Berhad – the Malaysian restaurant group. Six cask ales are on tap: Duffy’s Mild, Mucky Duck, Hopleaf, Duffy’s NB, Norfolk Terrier, and Pollys Jolly, with 50+ other European bottled beers also available.
Last night’s party was a full house, with an excellent DJ, and four pints of Hopleaf (4.5% abv) for the price of two - hic!
Flora Poldaisy, Blue’s Manageress, says she expects the bar to be heaving again tonight, and promises a terrific Filipina band from 9pm, and more BOGOF offers on Duffy’s beers. Open from 6pm ‘til midnight. Be there or be square!
NB. There’s no bar food. The kitchen is finished, but the ovens aren’t in yet.

Hard to tell. There wasn't any.
Lucky the beer was cold, or it would be half way to being a traditional British 'Warm Beer, Lousy Food' place already.

As it’s nearly opening time at the Blue I guess I should fess up about some Duff info.

And the biggest clue – why, the Norwegian Blue (Duffy's NB), of course!

JC3 messing with a man's beer expectations, that is cruel. Fortunately I had not forwarded this on to my drinking buddies so face is saved. I am going to have to console myself with a couple of UK's finest at the Crab & Lobster instead.
