Moving to KL, Schooling/Accomodation options

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum and hoping someone who's been through this recently can be of help.

I will be transferring from work to KL (working in KLCC) Feb 2014. We are considering schooling options for our children ages 4 and 9 (British style education preferred or at least IPC).

BISKL at Bandar Utama is an option, as well as ISP at desa park city. Does anyone have any experience with these two schools?

Also, would you consider a commute from Desapark city to Bandar utama where BISKL is located reasonable for the children?

Finally, could anyone share their experience of commuting from desapark city to KLCC? Is it doable? any particular time to avoid traffic?

Thanks for sharing

Oludunamis

Hi mate,

I've had a look at your route from Desa Parkcity to Bandar Utama; looks like you'll have to pass through TTDI (Taman Tun Dr Ismail), which is a large residential estate and township, containing schools and businesses. It'll take you about a quarter of an hour to get there assuming minimal traffic.

Traffic unfortunately will be a problem within TTDI during the peak times (7.30 - 9am) but if you leave at about 7am or earlier you should encounter reasonably less traffic when conducting the school run from Desa Parkcity to BU.

I would not advise going into KLCC during peak times with a vehicle; there's a daily traffic lockdown, you would do well to park at an LRT (Light Rapid Transit - KL's version of the Under/Overground) station, and take the train straight to the city centre.

Hope this helps.

LRT stations are very affordable; you pay up to a maximum of RM5.10 (approximately £1.02) for travel across the ENTIRE line and Desa Parkcity to KLCC doesn't even cover half of that - link below brings you to the fares -

Many LRT stations save for ones which are located in the city centre have parking slots; looks like the nearest one to Desa Parkcity is Sentul which is about 20 mins drive from where you are. Sentul to KLCC is RM2.70 (54p).

Hello!

Kindly take note that the LRT at Sentul is Ampang Line. It doesn't stop at KLCC,

You will need to switch to Kelana Jaya Line at Masjid Jamek station if you are boarding to KLCC.

Hi,

the Sentul station is Ampang Line and it doesn't stop at KLCC.

You need stop at Masjid Jamek and board the Kelana Jaya Line.

Btw driving from Desa Park City to Sentul LRT might take sometime, I would suggest you board Gombak station (Kelana Jaya Line) instead and it will go all the way to KLCC

@ kuanming,

Thanks for the reply.

it looks like TTDI is quite close to stops on the KJ line like taman bahagia abd taman paramount. So if i stayed in TTDI, I could park at paramount and take a direct LRT to KLCC. Also works ok for the children commuting from TTDI to Bandar utama.

From desa parkcity it looks a bit more difficult to connect.

Does anyone out there have experience commuting outwrd from KLCC to maybe Bandar Utama? is it better when one is presumably against trafffic influx into KLCC?

Hi oludunamis,

Yes, TTDI is nearer compare with Desa Park City.

TTDI and and Bandar Utama is seperated by LDP Highway or the easiest landmark, 1Utama Shopping Centre.

I'm not sure about parking facilities at Taman Bahagia.

In the morning, the peak will be from outer city into KL and in the evening it wille be from KL going back to outer city. Traffic will definitely an issue that everyone faced every weekday. It's just part of KL.

It's a no brainer, BIS has a reputation with teachers leaving and a head that did a runner as well. Look at ISR review as well. Some awful write ups from teachers.

Desa is a serious start up school it wins hands down. Transport is a minor issue.

How about Alice Smith or GIS? Both British schools of good standing (generally) if you can afford the fees. More established than Desa that has no exam record as new.
