Yeah, think your right, it says something about new staff arriving 21st. I think will prob be some kind of training and orientation before term starts.

I start at Sri KDU next week. Flying out Easter weekend. School is putting me in the iHotel Kota Damansara for 2 weeks, picking me up from the airport and providing transport to and from school for a whole term. So it appears us expat teachers are being well looked after by the school.
I will happily let you know more about the place once I'm there.

Wow! You must be excited! Do you know anything about what class you will be teaching in or any training you have to take part in?

Hi all,

My husband and I are about to apply for jobs at the same school; it seems they are still recruiting. Can I ask how long after applying you were all offered the jobs?

Hi

I'm thinking of applying for a job currently advertised at Sri KDU, but would like advice if anyone has it on the following.

Firstly, the school asks what you expect as a salary. Please does anyone know what package is offered (I'm an experienced UK teacher who, unrtil last year, worked in a couple of excellent British International schools in Europe). Do they offer accommodation allowance, utility bills, any other perks? No idea what to ask for as a salary!

Also, I'm a single mum. I have a couple of friends working out in KL, and am sure the socialising amongst staff will be great, but does anyone have any advice about what it's like with kids / what dating opportunities are like?!

Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you mean? Isn't that down to the airline and the class of travel? I think for instance Emirates is 30Kg in Economy with 1 carry on bag; Business is 40Kg and 2 carry on bags etc.

I just thought that due to the fact that we are moving our lives to the other side of the world they may allow 2 bags. Also i think it varies on journey and distance... not sure though! If your allowed 30kg for a weeks holiday to europe for example, surely you should be allowed slightly more going on a 13hr flight to the other side of the world for 2years!!! just a thought...

I don't think they will give extra baggage allowance but you can probably pay for it and paying in advance is a lot cheaper than paying for it when you check in. I'm hoping to take 2cases too. Will contact the airline as soon as I get the details.

I thought 30kg was a lot!! I've been looking at those 'fly my bag' sites - they ship pods out to where your going, so when we know the hotel name we could look at doing that!!

You can normally take more than 1 case, but the overall weight still stands. When we came out in March, (bearing in mind we had previously shipped all our possessions out last year), we had 2 suitcases plus a fairly large box (around 20" x 20" x 20") and 1 carry on bag each (although as we were flying business class, we could have had 2). We were actually about 10Kg overweight in total, but, after moving a few things around (because 32Kg is the maximum they will allow in 1 case), Emirates were good enough to let us off paying any excess. I think they would normally allow up to 1.5 Kg over and then have to pay any excess. As mentioned above, if you know you're going to be over the allowance, pre-booking is much cheaper than paying at the airport.

There is a company in the U.K. that will let you ship small loads - we had to send 3 more boxes just before we left (about the same size as the one we took with us), and they charge a minimum of £20 per box, or by weight (having said that, they still haven't actually arrived yet!).
