Hi everyone I have a wee query about milk please if anyone can answer?

I love my cups of tea however I really struggled with the taste, I can use just about any tea bag, so I wondered if it could be the milk and sure enough it was very sweet, I tried a few cartons and read the back and it seemed there is added sugar, so does anyone know a brand that doesn't have that?
I am over in a few weeks for the 2 weeks of the Easter holidays and think I will cry if I cant have my tea

Does anyone know where you can get fresh milk? I haven't seen it as of yet.

it should be "lactose" you read on the back :confused: , it's a content of milk, no added sugar. E.g. our Tesco milk does not taste sweet.

Yep you just need to look at the back of each pack. We use Nestle Low Fat milk...doesn't seem to have anything added to it. There's another brand from New Zealand but cannot remember the name of it right now.

We also fell into this strange milk trap when we first moved to Singapore and it took a little while to figure it out.

Well depends what you mean by fresh. You'll find some fresh-type milk in the cold sections of the supermarket but I think it's all reconstituted from powder isn't it? Ehrm.....no cows in Malaysia I think....someone correct me if I am wrong.

Goodday (bought in our Tesco) doesn't mention sugar as one of the ingredients. That comes in full and low fat (althought I am not quite sure if that is the equivalent of semi-skimmed, or skimmed!). There is another, in Tesco something like Dairy Maid or something, and I think that is imported from Australia - I don't think that has sugar either.

BB there certainly are cows in Malaysia. Or I have been hallucinating at my Mother-in-Laws - there is a field right next to her house, which has cows (well, they definitely look like cows to me) in it (the field belongs to my wife's uncle on her father's side). I have certainly seen bulls, and I think the other's must be cows, because there are calves as well.

There are also buffalo in a field near where my wife's aunt lives in Allor Gaja. So I think there must be plenty of bovine-hoofed quadrupeds around - or maybe we have them all in the South? I have seen plenty of goats as well. No sheep though! :blink::huh::confused:

I stand to be corrected then (re cows) :). Thanks for that.

We find the Low Fat milk is like the UK semi skimmed.

There are two brands of fresh milk regularly available at TESCO. One is Farm Fresh, which comes in regular and "skinny"= low fat. I think the other is Good Day. Both are fine, and sugar free. Avoid Dutch Lady, which appears in the refrigerated section but has been reconstituted. Also, there are indeed some UHT varieties (on the non-refrigerated aisle) which do not contain sugar (read label to be sure!) but we definitely prefer the taste of the two fresh brands to any UHT variety. I would also advise to check the expiration dates--I am working on a theory (have only been here 6 months) that the milk nearer its expiration date here starts to develop a taste that detracts from tea.

No cows in Georgetown, thats for sure but there are cows in Malaysia. Fresh from the farm milk is pretty hard to come by these days.

But i do remember my mum buying them from the indian guys who reared cows during our kampung days. The taste, lets just say it is somewhat strange, not something you can get off the shelf.

Come to think of it, I have seen one or two "wild" cows wandering around these parts. Yes I'm not kidding. Saw a couple wandering about along Kelawei one day and 5 or 6 along the banks of the mighty River Fettes behind Island Plaza. Not sure if they are actually cows, some kind of cattle.

Well, there are normally a few cows right next to the Gurney Plaza mall, on the plot of land between Gurney Drive and Kelawei Road, in George Town. You may be right about Georgetown though. Where's that?

Kirisuchina thanks so much it was good day that I tried the 2nd time and it tasted funny ( I didn't try drinking it itself) the first type (can't remember the name) had sugar in it so went on the look out for other milk but don't think I looked at the date. I will need to find Tesco I think, although the shop cold storage had a big selection so should be ok there :) and I definitely have not seen any cows in Kl so far ;)

I shall have to remember this! I love a brew. I am a Yorkshire tea fan which I doubt is available but excited to try all the local teas to find my new favourite : )
