Default Maternity cover on health insurance

Just wondering if anyone can answer for me, when the insurance companies say 10 month waiting period is that you have to pay for 10 months before you get pregnant or 10 months before you actually give birth?

We're probably moving to KL early next year but were planning to start trying for baby no2 at Christmas so not sure what to do now!
