Love a Discount?

Personally, I love a discount.
Please share what you find. Here's a few to kick off. Thanks.

Hotels - Malaysia Residents Rate
I found recently that MM2H'ers qualify for the 'Malaysia Residents Rate' at Starwood Hotels Group (e.g. The Andaman Langkawi). I believe YTL Hotels offer something similar (e.g. Pangkor Laut Resort).

Restaurants
I've heard Seniors can get a 50% discount at the E&O hotel's buffet at Sarkies restaurant. Can anyone confirm this? And how old is a Senior?!
I imagine the discount is aimed at Malaysians, but am told MM2H'ers qualify. That said, I expect the E&O probably keeps it quiet from hotel guests - got to make money somewhere...

Sigi's Bar & Grill on the beach, Golden Sands Resort Penang

Penang Hill Railway
Good discounts for MM2H'ers compared to the Foreigners price.

MM2H price is 7RM but if you can show you are over 60 you also get the seniors discount and the return fare drops to 5RM.

If you are visiting KLCC the aquarium offers a discount to MM2H holders.

Gosh, we must be psychic JC3. I almost started a topic on discounts the other day but didn't.

Georgetown Pharmacy (branches at Tesco Tg Tokong, and Tanjung Bungah at the end of the market road). Give you a membership discount without a card (very handy). You just tell them you want membership, give them your handphone number. Every time you go to pay, tell them the phone number and, hey presto, discount.

I get a good discount at the little pharmacy in BF.
This after telling them that I will do all my purchases for the relevant products there.

I get discounts at Georgetoen Pharmacy as BB. Also at Staywell, basement of Gurney Plaza near to Cold Storage end - I just told them I'll be buying my meds etc there and they put my name and contact in a "book". So every time I go my list of meds with the special discounts are there and things not in the list get discounted too.

Himilaya, GNC etc also have similar registered 'loyalty' program with instant discounts with purchase of certain amount of products.

If you live in Straits Quay you get a "membership" card, but you need to pay fr that. OR as a visitor just register at the Customer Desk at main foyer and get that day's discounts at certain shops/eateries there eg Secret Recipe etc.
Oh Sushi also has a membership card of their own or use the SQ resident membership card.

Discounts at CoffeeBean with Citibank cards.
Not sure if HSBC cards still offer discounts at Starbuck, haven't been there for some time.

I got some discount at Dome with my CIMB card. It's just so complicated with all these cards. Why don't they just reduce prices and make life easier?

Because then any Tom Dick n Harriet (Cruise passenger/Out of towner) would not get the benefit of paying extra! If every one paid the same price then the "normal" price may well increase. Outsiders need to pay more to show their gratefulness at being allowed to experience the local hospitality;)

Some lawyers will even give a discount on Conveyancing fees too (e.g. 20%), if you ask in the right way.

Can confirm this - a senior is over 60. Applies to lunch or dinner, but not during festive periods.

Last week, Mrs JC and I met some friends for lunch at Azuma Japanese Restaurant in Queensbay Mall (Penang). It’s quite good there. Azuma is an Edo Ichi group restaurant.

Back to Azuma. The waitress asked us "Do you have a Parkson Card?" I do, but didn’t have it with me. Damn, we missed out on 10% off the total bill and complimentary ice cream all round. There’s a similar deal at Edo Ichi, Island Plaza.

This made me look at the Parkson website and the Merchant Partners Privileges for cardmembers – there’s quite a lot of discounts available on everything from facials to hotels. Could be worth checking the list before making a major purchase at, for example, Harvey Norman (up to 8% off). The card is available free from Parkson.

See categories below:

PARKSON CARD MERCHANT PARTNERS PRIVILEGES

•Automobile

•Beauty & Health

•Dining

•Electronics & Gadgets

•Home Entertainment & Electrical Goods

•Home Furnishings & Decor

•Hospitality

•Lounge

•Pharmacy

•Shopping

•Variety

For the list of discounts and offers see:

PS. If you’re at Queensbay Mall, also worth checking out is the new Espresso Lab coffee shop on the first floor, North Zone for a good affogato.

Penang Hop-on Hop-off Bus
This bus service has two prices for a 24h ticket: 45 RM for foreigners and 19 RM for everyone who can show a MYKAD. When I got on the bus this morning I asked whether they have a discount for MM2H people who live in Penang, which resulted in blank stares. I did not have my passport with me, showing my visa status. So instead I showed my Malaysian driver's license, as proof that I live here. I think that this did the magical trick as both my wife and I had to pay the 19 RM rate.

We both enjoyed this bus trip. Each loop (city, beach) take approximately 1.5 hours if you don't get off the bus. Be careful though that the bus frequency for the beach route is a bit low. Roughly speaking there is a bus departing for the beach route every 75 minutes. There are more buses operational on the city loop, resulting in more buses per hour.

Residents of Quayside & Straits Quay can get a free Straits Quay club card from the information desk which gets good discounts to most of the establishments in SQ including Healy Macs & 20% off at Starbucks.

Re: Love a Discount?

The Sea Queen restaurant at Straits Quay, ground floor on the corner overlooking the marina, has a lunch special week days 11-2.30. A set lunch, choose your protein; chicken, fish, shrimp or pork & choose the sauce, served with rice, a garnish & a consome with what seems like unlimited tea for 7.90++ RMB. I had the fish with ginger & spring onion, very tasty & great value.
