Default Looking for a maid

Hi,
we have recently moved to KL and our new house here and we are looking for live-in maid. Can someone please advise me? Is there anyone who is leaving Malaysia and have an English speaking maid? We will go through the process with the agency, but I've heard it is a lottery...thank you!

It can be a lottery but if you go for a transfer maid you should be able to check references yourself. Other suggestions, check the noticeboard at schools (if you have children). The ibu online forum also has posts from people leaving with maids available. Expat associations will also have leads on maids with members who are leaving.

Not all transfer maids will be good.

Not all references will be correct.

We've only had one dud and that was a transfer from a 'friend'.

If you haven't had a maid before then give her a chance but IF the time comes when you realise it won't work then that is the time for action.

But remember they've paid a lot of money up front to agents to become maids and that generally is money their family can ill afford to lose.

Not suggesting it is a 'foolproof' method, but OP was asking for suggestions and I was hopefully providing some useful information.

Thanks for your replies, still in process of looking...schools are already closed, so it is little bit harder. We asked also in community area where we live. Does anyone know someone who is leaving and has a good maid by any chance?
