Living costs
Hello everyone, I'm a british 61 year old single male & I'm not a party cat so if I were to retire to one of the suggested locations of Melaka, Penang or Ipoh (are there any others?) and buy a property for the legal minimum under the MMMH visa plan what might my living expenses be - including property taxes. Big question I know but I'm hoping someone similar to me is out there. Thanks. PS would I get for 500,000.00?

Re: Living costs
In Penang as a MM2Her you can buy a condo unit for 500,000 RM. Foreigners without MM2H it's minimum 1 million.
You'll find property in Melaka is cheaper than Penang.

Re: Living costs
Difficult to determine living costs as everyone is different. Think there was a thread on here a little while back. Maybe do a search for "costs" in this section of the forum.
I can pretty much guarantee that costs will be a lot lower than UK. If you use aircon, that can be a big cost in electricity, depending on how low a temperature you set it at and how big your apartment is.
Petrol is very cheap. Local foods and eating out can be cheap. Have you visited Malaysia before?

Re: Living costs
Hi, no I have never been but I have friends (whose opinion I value) who tell me it's a wonderful place to live. After buying a place to live & a Car I would be trying to live on about £850 a month - I would have quite a bit of cash reserves

Re: Living costs
That's about RM 4100 a month. I imagine it would be possible. I presume you know that you have to prove RM 10,000 per month for MM2H?
Cars are expensive compared to UK but plenty of secondhand ones around.
Maybe you better book a holiday and see if you like it
