Default Kota Kinabalu Climb

I'm keen to do a climb of Kota Kinabalu, the 2D1N stop overnight at Laban Rata and see the sunrise version. Can anyone recommend a tour company to arrange this through?

I've heard that 'Sutera' have a monopoly on tours yet they don't appear to have a specific webpage. I've also heard that doing the climb from Mesilau is best but most trips appear to start from Timpohon Gate.

I'm interested to hear anyones first hand experience of doing this trip.

Hi Nakrob, I did the climb in 2003. I expect procedures have changed since then (as has my weight!). A good starting point is this web site - http://www.sabahtourism.com/sabah-malaysian-borneo/en/
They are advertising a climb to take place 16-18 August which is too short notice for you but there are details of the organiser.

We did it about 15 years ago, and if I recall correctly we just booked it thru our Singapore travel agent who also booked our flights..back then we used travel agents for everything..how times have changed, eh!!

A quick google came up with toursofborneo.com that look to arrange similar trips to what we did, though I am not recommending them as I've no idea who actually organized ours! From what I recall, everyone was effectively doing 2 day/2night..the first night was spent close to the mountain so we could get a quick start on the morning of the climb, then the 2nd night at Laban Rata, and the 2nd day up to the top then straight back down and into the city.

Ps..That link on the Sabah tourism website about the 16-18 climb looks like it is for a fundraiser expedition ( I work with a duchenne group in the US that does similar sorts of things).
