I guess my daughter is the most sophisticated investor of all six month old kids in Malaysia. She has bank accounts in three countries and currencies, but 95% of her money is in the stock market

Teaching that to a child from an early age gives a foundation for their future in a capitalistic world.
I wish my parents had instilled such in me but my dad was a member of the communist party and believed in radical socialism...he never even wanted to own a house for his family. He believed the state should own everything and the nice state leaders would ration out to those in need.
He died a very bitter and disillusioned man....

Wanna bet...Neon already admitted he wants to maintain his fortune in hard currency for his inheritors.... and you want to invest to make more.

Sushifan, from a purely selfish perspective I would have to agree with you. And with some insight into which time and date the grim reaper intends to come calling I could plan to enjoy every last sen. But the reality is that some money will get left behind. The wife excepted, my beneficiaries are to be found in UK, Canada and New Zealand. To protect their interests some money needs to be kept in stronger currencies that the ringgit.

I am touched that you fine gentlemen are offering to take care of my life savings and save me the burden of maintaining it's value. But I am sorry to report Davita that even with the assistance of a short sighted yacht salesman who miss read my cheque in ringgits for US$ I would be hard pressed to buy that boat for you.
Well.. lets not give up on digging for Gold..just yet.. I hear there is a sucker born everyday :P

Well folks...the boat may not be available but the dream is still alive and, considering I now have a very capable and licensed Captain to take charge (Capt.Sosueme...sorry Capt. ssoomro), we just need the boat.
I've heard of this investment principle where you create something emotional....anything works.... then appeal for a thing called 'gofundme' for whatever crap we can come up with to 'borrow' enough money for the deposit.
Once established we can say we're a 'start-up' group and apply for state money...then the banks will get the idea we're viable and give us a mortgage on something we're never going to develop. We'll turn to the Yachting industry, which is doing well, with the potential fat cats getting gofundme from Trumps tax cut, and convince them we would be their poster-boys to advertise their philanthropy in offering a cheap price for a boat so us geriatrics, who've never taken to the water, can enjoy watching the waning sun leave their lives.
Old people store money...we need to get it out of their mattress and into building more yachts and keep the economy rolling. I'd be the promoter.
I think this is a good start....any advice is welcome ...
There's a saying that from small acorns big acorns grow...but.....I want a yacht....not a seed!

Re: Investment Options
As this thread is about investing perhaps I should get it back on track.
I can easily do this by offering good investment advice......NEVER EVER buy a boat...it's the WORST investment ever.
There's a reason for the acronym for BOAT....... (Break Out Another Thousand)...or the definition of a yacht.."A hole in the water where you throw all your kid's inheritance money"

I am positively disappointed that you chose to go with Capt Sosueme (Was that because his name has more vowels than mine? )..
Well "Crowd Funding" is a latest craze online..which is at once amazing/interesting and ridiculous...there are a dozen or so very popular sites (including 'gofundme') where inventors, entrepreneurs and certifiable crooks go to solicit funding directly from public. In a way its democratization of access to capital.. spreading the risk (so instead of a bank/institution/person providing most of funds/taking most of the risk.. very small amounts are put up by a very large number of ppl) and a great way to get your projects off the ground at least from initial seed money point of view.
"gofundme' is often used for personal/social cause and you find some of the most creative requests there. My fav has always been 'Kickstarters'.. some really kewl product ideas came from there. and my fav microlending site 'kiva' is essentially a crowd funded site.
as for as saving money as inheritance to your survivors is considered.. i have always liked the chinese saying, " If your children are good, they dont need your money, If they are bad, dont give them your money"...believe me I am childless (by choice) and as such an authority on all matters related to child rearing
