I'm making plans to go to Penang for a month July/August.
This will be a bit of a recon mission before (all going well) making a move in January 2014.
I will be staying with friends for the time Im there but to make the most of my time. looking at rents, possible work etc do you guys have any pointers?
Right now Im looking at job sites in Malaysia, mudah.my. are there any better?
Thanks

Hi Julian
Business is moving along well. Thanks for asking!
It's actually moving better than I envisaged for the first year. Hopefully, the trend will continue. Right at this moment though, things have gone very quiet as Malaysians just want to wait until after the elections before committing to any business! Aprehension I think!
Can I ask why you're more interested in Penang rather than KL? As opportunities are more abundant in the capital.

Penang, well for now its because I have friends who live there. Part of my visiting and research before is to find out where is best and if it comes out to be KL then KL it will be :-)
Glad to hear business is brisk

Contacts/'word of mouth'/'putting the word out' especially amongst locals may well prove more fruitful than the jobsites. If you are considering any training for teaching English it may be preferable to start with a TEFL course with an accredited provider as an intro. before tackling TESOL (which is more in depth and heavy going). Some UK teaching experience would also be an advantage but it seems time is short. Bear in mind that jobs are generally local at local pay rates which are a lot lower than UK.

Thanks Hovite
Yes i had considered training as TESOL as I would be going right from a degree so the learning thing is still on the go. I hear mixed stories about whether or not its worth it though and I can't seem to find out if it would be enough without real teacher experience. I dont mond the drop in wage, i see it as a better way of life Im after really, the money can come second

I initially considered Johor for same reasons; know friends there.
But in the end, found that all business and enquiries were originating from Klang Valley.
