FD hunting, favourite sports of the nation

Oh, i missed the good old times in Europe so much, when a noticeable interest rate for your savings existed.

Malaysians are crazy about getting the best FD rates, I joined them immediately after arriving

In the last years, 4,5% have been the peak, but now FINALLY the BNM has raised the base rate from 3 to 3,25%. That move was expected for 2018 but only for the second half of the year.

BNM raises OPR to 3.25%, first hike in three-and-a-half years

And they raised the corridor up to 3,5%!

Expect 4,6% offers before CNY and maybe we will see 5,0% later this year, I am so excited

Did not happen, but we are back in the 4,5 world. OCBC has, not every branch, not for everybody, drop a whatsapp message to your Premier RM.

Bank Islams 4,65 is the talk of the town right now. And it is a funny product where you get the interest credited every quarter in your account.

But before many get too excited, Bank Islam is one of the banks that donĀ“t do business with MM2Hers, as a foreigner you must have working visa.

No other product over 4,4% at the moment as far as I know.

Bank Rakyat now is offering amazing 4.70% for five years.

Sounds long BUT you can have the interest credited in your savings account monthly. Also Under-50 can!

No advertisement for this online, but you can easily spot the big "4.70" signs out on their branches.

CIMB now offering 4.25 for preferred and 4.40 for islamic (12 months).

Do yourself a favour and add islamic to your CIMB accounts as others have suggested before in the MM2H section.

Lot of 6 month 4.5% around at the moment. strange, as 12 month usually not more than 4.4.

My RM thinks this is because the expectation that the rates go down mid 2019.

So sad.

The FD situation is really bad now, not to talk about the jailed MM2H FDs.

Anyone recently had the annual renewal? Which rates did you get?

Congratulations to everyone who locked the MM2H FD rate for 5 years in the last years.

It is and it will go lower according to our RM at another intl bank for the regular FDs.
Oh, don't be so certain the 5 yr locked in MM2H FD is secured at the initial rate. Our initial 5 yr MM2H FD interest rate with HSBC was reduced when rates fell during the 2nd yr! Seems the banks here can change FD interest rates with just a letter to notify the clients!

Yes, also my "priority" RM from two different banks "guaranteed" me a drop to 2.5% next year. Bank Negara just follows the megatrend that national banks are making their government happy. It is the end of the world as we know it. But Malaysia is far away from a 1st world country, the Zombification of the world economy can be easily be recognized when you see a country like Malaysia being able to push a interest rate of 2.5%. AND raising the minimum wage at the same time.

What the hell! Unbelievable that a big internation bank like HSBC is behaving like this. by the way this is one of the biggest weaknesses of the MM2H program. It makes us defenseless victims of the bank, they know the can cheat us, abuse us, we have no rights, we only can terminate MM2H to escape them.
