Was discussing downsides of Malaysia with my wife, and we honestly struggled! So far, so good. There are so many positives when we compared our lifestyle back in the UK to what it is now. Plus, any negatives, we felt we were being unfair, as they're expected from a developing country when compared to a developed one...

The main downsides for me, and this is nit-picking, are road etiquette, lack of pavements and difficulty in finding proper Cadbury's chocolates, meaning from the Birmingham factory!

It's the same problem in all hot countries - I think Cadbury's must make a higher melting point chocolate for these markets which is definitely not so nice.

Whatever the downsides and there are a few but compare them to the downsides of living in UK or Europe or USA or ad infinitum

Good to hear everyone's thoughts. Has anyone ever been significantly irked by the cultural practices of others -- neighbors, community leaders, even random passerby's?

Cultural practices - In everyday life with friends, relatives, neighbours, passersby the answer is "no" but in business "yes". They seem to have a habit of being offended (or pretend to be offended) at the slightest thing. This has happened several times and maybe cultural judging by the number of defamation cases in the papers. Some don't honour agreements even when they are in writing but I do not think this is cultural as it is not a frequent occurrence. Having said that, for me overall the quality of life in Malaysia is far higher than UK.
