Crikey.....so cheap lah

We all have some little moans about Malaysia from time to time but....eating can be so cheap. Makes me wonder sometimes why I bother to cook at home.

I was over at Prima Tanjung (Jalan Fettes) this morning to do a few things, and the Nasi Lemak stall in the foodcourt was calling me. So I bought a double portion of coconut rice (holding back half for tomorrow). Filled the other box with some dangerously spicy looking okra, bittergourd (I think), ikan bilis and a couple of large pieces of tofu.

Checked out and she said 5 ringgits  I asked her if she was sure, and she said Yes....cheap cheap haha. Amazing. For those of you over in ol' Blighty, that is about 84 pence.

Looks good Baked Bean.

Cheap up here in Taipei too, but maybe a smidge more expensive than you've got. This morning we stopped at a street stall and had some excellent "dan bing" (pancakes with egg and bacon/ham) and fed 4 of us for 1.50:thumbup: I've been getting really good "rice packet" lunch portions for US 1.50-2.00, and dinner portions for a little more. Then going and buying a starbucks for US3:lol: Actually, a big improvement in Taipei since we started coming in the mid 90's is the explosion of great little coffee shops. I only go to the Starbucks when I need to sit down somewhere with A/C and an internet connection - other than that, it's a little local place for $1 for a really good Americano.
I haven't cooked at all for the whole month we've been here - eaten out every single meal, and it a) has been dirt cheap, b) has been fantastic food, and c) I have actually lost weight - I definitely couldn't say that after a month of eating out back in the US:rofl: Speaking of which, we're heading back on Saturday....not happy.....:(

Sounds good Yorkie. I really know nothing about Taiwanese food.

You better take a holiday in Penang next time ;)

Even in KL it is possible to eat well for little outlay. I had lunch last week at an Indian restaurant called NZ, and had some biryani rice, with gorgeous vegetables - KangKong and Okra, and was RM8! Some chicken would have added on a couple of RM at most. And it was so tasty, I'm heading there right now.......!!

Had 3 portions of Nasi Lemak with the rice, chicken, egg, peanuts and sauce for RM12 from our local on Saturday, which the whole family had. Then blew RM100 at Manhattan Fish Market yesterday! The difference is staggering! Imagine eating the Nasi Lemak for a whole year... How much could be saved? Would you survive?!

If you're vegetarian (I'm not) then it can be quite a cheap life here.

I can't get over the price of fish in Malaysia and not such great quality either. Never mind I'm off to New England in October - fresh lobster every day for the price of a Big Mac (well, I am exaggerating just slightly!)
