considering a move to KL
Hi there,
I have received a job offer that is paying me 2000 Euros (approx. 8550 RM) pre-tax. I was wondering if that is enough to live a decent life as a young expat. What I mean with decent: - Own apartment in central location - Eating out 5 out of 7 days a week - Enjoy nightlife (bar/clubs) - Paying bills (utilities, internet, mobile) - Transportation (taxi's and daily train fares) Appreciate any advice as I have never been to KL and don't know what to expect. Thanks! |

Re: considering a move to KL
Accomodation Rm3-4k depending on location, size etc
If you go to bar or clubs once a week and spend on average Rm200 per trip, more if you want hanky panky  Food wise, do budget Rm25-Rm30 per meal at KL. Transportation, if you are able to take public transport, lrt, mrt, bus and avoid taxis, it saves a lot. Daily commute to work rm200-rm250 Internet, rm 150 mth, phone data plan Rm150 per mth. What about health insurance and clothing, shoes, underwear, once in a while? At the moment the ringgit value is like a banana leaf, hence you do get to enjoy higher value if you convert EU to ringgit.g |

Hi Shawn and welcome to the forum :)
Would also add that Malaysia is not the cheapest place for alcohol (if you drink). |
Re: considering a move to KL
Hi Bakedbean,
Thanks for the heads up! I definitely drink but in moderation and also within my budget. I just have a question regarding accomodation. I have seen studios/1 bedroom apartments near KLCC for approx 2000 MYR. Are these scams or true reflection of prices. Given that I would earn 6200 MYR after tax I came up with the following: Rent: 2000 Bills: 500 Transport: 300 Food: 1000 Other expenses: 800 Insurance: 300 This totals too 5000 MYR |
