Default Buying a car

We are a family of 4. 2 adults and 2 kids.
We are looking at buying a new Perodua Myvi 1.3 EZi as it's just on our budget of 50,000.
Anyone know how good this car is for a family of 4. With 2 car seats.

What are the rules for car seats in malaysia ? Are there any ?
What suggestion would you give for buying a car with a budget of 50,000.
Is it true that buying Malaysian make is cheaper ? What are the malaysian cars apart from perodua ?
How quick do we get the car ? Is it straightaway like UK or do we have to wait like in some other places.
Any suggestions welcome.

Regards.

Hello

Malaysian carmakers are heavily protected by ridiculously large duties on imported cars, so yes, Protons and Peroduas are cheaper. I have friends who have Myvis with two cars seats and no probs. if you're also going to be carrying a pram in the back you will be in for a tight squeeze.

We bought a 3 year old Toyota Avanza mini MPV when we got here for about 55k, which gave us a lot more room, Toyota reliability and according to locals, will give us a better resale when the time comes. Honda's are also very popular.

Sadly, there are no laws relating to car seats in Malaysia and you will commonly see toddlers jumping around on backseats, unrestrained by even a seatbelt, while mum or dad drives on oblivious. Cars here do not come with car seat anchor points or isofix fitted. Malaysia has a long, long way to go in developing a first world mindset when it comes to to road safety.

You can purchase a car straightaway. Make sure you bring proof of your no claims if you have it; we're saving 50% on our premiums by transferring this over.

If you can stretch your budget a bit, the Toyota Avanza is a good bye.
Website for a new one in Malaysia: http://www.toyota.com.my/avanza/#price_details

That said, if you only have 2 adults and 2 kids in the car with small luggage requirements, a Myvi is a good car, with good resale value to boot :-)
