Re: Broadband connection
Nope, they didn't leave any booklet. Just copy of agreement and manual for modem/router and DECT phone.
@ajw I used the link: showing as 10.1mpbs! I'm happy! Regards Abdul |
Re: Broadband connection
Hi Abdulawwal, great to hear your broadband is up and running in your home, finally! Still no news for me yet as Maxis haven't called to set an installation date for me here in JB, will def have to chase them again!

Re: Broadband connection
They usually give you an estimated installation date at the Maxis office where you sign up. Then follow up with a phone call.

Re: Broadband connection
Hi there, just an update: We ended up getting Unifi and not Maxis fibre internet installed in our home. I did not get a call from Maxis within the days after I paid the deposit on 28th Oct. So around the 2nd week of November, I called Customer Service in KL, and based on their records, they claimed they called me. But I never got a call from them, either on my Malaysia or Singapore mobile phones. What's worse, they terminated my contract (which is funny because I hadn't even started using them!) since I was unreachable and they said I had to re-apply. I found that really off-putting, so I told them I would go back to the centre where I put in my application and just get my RM500 deposit back. I got a refund on the 3rd Dec. The front office was apologetic about the situation, he said there are only 3 Maxis fibre internet installers for Johor Bahru! Finally found the Unifi website on the 16th of November...and it couldn't have been easier to apply! I filled out the form and applied online, and believe it or not someone from Unifi called us the very next morning to ask if we wanted to advance our 4th Dec installation to the 1st Dec instead! This was so not like Maxis, where we were at their complete and utter mercy... The difference in price was negligible at this point- Unifi charges RM199 compared to Maxis' RM168 for 10 mbps. The Unifi installers promptly arrived on the date we requested and it took them 2 hours to get our internet up and running at home. So far so good, we are very happy with Unifi's capabilities. I am now a certified Unifi fan, and would recommend it to anyone moving to JB!!!

Use http://speedtest.net/ to check. If you do that then go to Share this result>forum>copy you can paste your result here like this: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2379310888.png I'm on the FREE 1Mbps connection and it does all I need, surfing, youtube, watching stuff online with no buffering etc. I'm not a gamer though. |
Re: Broadband connection
I do lots of downloading and it's very quick for that. I have the IPTV with Astro (broadband is via Time) which is a billion times better than what we used to have with Telecom.

Re: Broadband connection
Also on astro iptv which works well for us. And the TV doesnt get knocked out everytime it rains anymore.
We're getting about 10mps up and can boost it to about 20mps up for 30 hours a month. We should be able to boost to 30mps but we have to use network powerline adapters since the wifi signal cannot make it through multiple concrete walls. |

http://www.speedtest.net/result/2381348512.png ha ha, I was being overly positive there. This is the speedtest using my laptop and the signal penetrating those twp solid walls. Just a slight drop in download speed, but note how much fater the ping time is.s |
Re: Broadband connection
Depends on what you're willing to put up with. 1mps would be considered 'unusable' in our place ;-)

And best of all it's free. FREE I tells ya. |
Re: Broadband connection
The top test is wifi through the two dense walls. Just a 0.03Mbps drop off. |
Re: Broadband connection
I think our issue is due to both walls and distance. I also notice that my Imac doesnt receive the wifi signal as well as our Samsung laptop.
Sounds like you are on a good deal there exreg |
