News here is they were grenades and guns used and it happened outside the Sarinah Mall on the main road Jl Thamrin. To those who are familiar this isn't far from the iconic Jaya Pub.
According to reports there are 6 dead.

Shouldn't this be posted in the Indonesia section, or is there a relation with Malaysia?

The reason for posting it here is that many of us living in Malaysia visit Indonesia and it appears these terror attacks are getting ever closer.

I am sure those living in Indonesia would know about it, before reading my posting here

Yes I did actually think of visiting Jakarta this week before deciding on Kota Kinabalu, very glad I made the right choice. You're right it is getting a bit too close for comfort. A German friend of mine was in Istanbul for New Year and I'm sure he feels the same.

I would be very happy if something similar occurred in KL and was posted in my Bali forum. I'm going to KL in the next month so.....

I agree with SushiFan that 'normal events' should be kept to each relative forum but info like JC3 posted is invaluable, not only to travellers but those who have friends/relatives that may be affected.
Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia are all intertwined with respect to this kind of terrorism...remember, Noordon Top and Azahari Husin, of the Bali bombers, were Malaysians.
