Just read it. Good news that he's been found. Seems like too many expat child kidnappings around KL. Not sure I would wish to live in a house around KL

Crimes like accidents can happen anywhere, not necessarily at KL.
What is more important now is Freddie is safe, and time to find those who attempted the kidnapping.

I must say, this is just about the nail in the coffin for us. After Nayati last year, another attempt on a child (parents car ambushed by 3 vehicles) in Mont Kiara two months ago. A young woman almost kidnapped in Bangsar last month. And these are just the ones we hear about. Glad to be heading home.

You're right of course but just seems to be a lot of activity reported around the KL suburbs just lately. Do we get this kind of crime in Penang? Bag snatches for sure....but kidnappings? Does it happen?

The best way to avoid bag snatchers is not carry one.

This isn't confined to Malaysia, although kidnapping would be considered very rare in Australia : usually restricted to parents illegally fleeing the country with their ex's kids. Sydney is now at the stage where the gangs shoot one another in broad daylight, spraying cars and houses with bullets, and most Monday mornings are a roll call of the alcohol-fuelled violence across the nation. Sad when I can no longer walk the streets of the city I grew up in at night, but that's what it has come to in Sydney.

Thankfully, this picture bears no resemblance to my patch in Melbourne :-) Every major city has its trouble patches but to suggest these problems are happening everywhere 'across the nation' is an exaggeration.

Happt to read that he has been found safe and well - less happy to hear some of the crap sprouted by the cops. Ruling out ransom as a motive because 'small children are hard to control' then telling the reporter they didnt think they would be able to get much info out of a *toddler* ? Really, fellas ?
One of the things I've noticed about Thai and Indonesian police is that they are surprisingly effective at catching criminals when there is sufficient pressure placed on them from above - for the sake of everyone involved, let's hope the Malaysian police can do the same.

It seems (according to the NST) that the family's Filipino ex-maid has been arrested along with her boyfriend to "assist the police with their enquiries".

I'd give them about 10 years to assist Police with said enquiries. 10 years or an hour alone in a room with the parents - your choice.
