Afternoon Tea in Penang

Afternoon Tea in Penang
I thought there was an Afternoon Tea in Penang thread, but I can’t find it.
My favourites for afternoon tea are the 1885 restaurant at the E&O hotel, and TWG in Gurney Paragon.
Today Mrs JC and I tried a new place in George Town for a change of scene.
Metisser Patisserie & Tea Room on Jalan Pintai Tali (Rope Walk) opened just a few months ago and offer a range of about 50 Harney & Sons teas including my favourite - Lapsang Souchong.
We had the High Tea Set that consisted of two finger sandwiches, two scones with jam and cream, two slices of cake, two macaroons, and a large pot of tea with milk. At RM70 (for two) it’s perhaps not cheap, but we felt we got good value for money.
We liked it - good tea, quality china cups, great scones, really good cakes…and an immaculate loo. The polite and friendly staff were also happy to top up our teapot with hot water. An upmarket joint all round, modern and clean.
You’ll find Metisser at 140/142 Jalan Pintai Tali (Rope Walk) in ‘Ropewalk Piazza’ - a row of newly renovated shophouses.
Open: 12 pm to 11 pm.
Closed on Wednesdays.
Tel: 04 251 9739
Whilst you’re in the area don’t miss:
Thye Huat (one of the best hardware stores in Penang) just a few doors away.
Mr Kang’s bric-a-brac / antique shop at 191 Carnavon Street (about 200 yards away), if you like shabby chic stuff.
Kenangan Silam Ent (Days Gone By / Memories, something like that) another bric-a-brac place at 35 Carnavon Street, at the junction with Campbell Street – which is crammed with vintage stuff, is great for a browse, and is a good source for vintage lights and light fittings. Note Days Gone By is only open in the afternoons, and that can be a bit hit and miss.

I'm wondering what a Two Finger Sandwich is. Is it when the waiter does not like you?

If you like rude food, head down to Tesco Tanjung Tokong for some Premium Chinese Cock.
Labelled as cock, spelt like cock, looks like cock, probably is cock.
I dare you to ask for it by name!
