What I think he's trying to come round to claim is that it shows the initiative of the Private Sector.....

You're not really unaware of the record of organisations like A4e and G4S surely?

All their big contracts and fake training courses? Group 4 - changing their name to G4S - letting prisoners escape, running prisons badly and all the rest of it?

And of course public employees never let prisoners escape or ran prisons badly.

I am not defending G4S or any other contractor, but public employees don't have a great record either, and yet the media, fed by the unions, lambast private contractors, not that they don't deserve it, but public ownership is not a magic path to a perfect world.

Scale.
Small private companies having controversy after controversy out of all proportion.
Not providing the service contracted to provide. Lies. And they keep getting contracts, replacing other companies who failed.

Media fed by unions? Seriously? Try reading about the places that have been shut down following government inquiries. Media? Unions? Balls!

There's a difference between the odd person being lazy or incompetent - no matter what the organisation - and an entire organisation being paid for things like training courses that are actually bogus.

From a previous thread
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...e-claims-abuse
On the same page are other recent stories about G4S.
Ofsted rules jail inadequate; High levels of violence at child jail; Fined 100 times for breaching prison contracts...
And still the government uses them.

Acccording to wiki they've been surrounded in controversy countless times. Managers getting bonuses when investigation after investigation reveals them to be poorlyy run and all the rest of it.
A4e the controversial training agency with it's bogus training courses that don't actually happen and such like. I can state with some certainty that before training was privatised, no bogus courses were held since there was no money to be obtained under false pretences.
In May 2016, the Independent Police Complaints Commission conducted an investigation into the practises of G4S working with Lincolnshire Police after five 999 control room staff for the police force were suspended amid claims workers made emergency calls at "quiet times" in a bid to improve call answering data. Disciplinary procedures were undertaken against the accused in accordance with company policy, and police said the staff involved are all former Lincolnshire Police employees who transferred to G4S four years ago
In 2014 G4S repaid money it had been paid for tagging offenders in Scotland. G4S had charged the government for tagging offenders who were dead or in prison
See the difference? Money obtained under false pretences. For all its faults that can't happen in the public sector.

18 training providers the government used. Not one of them had met their contracted targets. Did they lose their contracts or suffer penalties? Not at the time, no.

Funny thing...after some bad reports on one of the centres, things had apparently improved since a previous director was removed from his post (but not the payroll) after some problems. This was noted in a March 2017 report.
That didn't last long then.

And 'the man in charge' has previously had to quit following an earlier scandal.

I expect he'll get another post.
A repeat of the earlier link about ten scandals
MoJ seizes control of Birmingham prison from G4S

3aaa
Police have launched a criminal investigation into allegations of fraud at the UK’s largest government-funded apprenticeship provider....
“A formal criminal investigation has been launched into 3aaa,” a police spokesman said. “This follows a number of allegations of fraud that have been made by the Department for Education against the firm. Officers from Derbyshire constabulary’s specialist fraud investigation team will now begin the process of making formal inquiries into these allegations.”
The firm, which received £31m of government money last year, was placed into compulsory liquidation in October 2018... It is the second time the DfE has investigated alleged wrongdoing at 3aaa. A previous investigation in 2016 by the auditing firm KPMG found that 3aaa had been overestimating its apprenticeship success rate.
It's all about the scale.

I am not a royal watcher but I was tickled by the BBC feature on the Duchess of Cambridge's woodland garden at the Chelsea Flower show. In fact I was going to post this in the "What made you smile" thread, as I think the garden is wonderful!

And then, dismay, shock & horror set in!

How irresponsible! What happened to H & S?

The child on the swing without hard hat & harness, the child waving a large stick but no goggles in evidence! The child in, yes in, the slippery rocky stream without approved footware or safety line or hard hat & shin pads, in fact why was this feature not fenced off completely? The wooden den with no fire exit. Finally the Father playing with a bow & arrow - what kind of example is that? Was a risk assessment carried out before the local kids were invited in? I think not!

Outrageous!

On top of that, there's the question of apparent time travel. How is it that royal children still manage to look as though it's 1957? It's fishy.

Bloody inefficient public sector.
Oh, wait...
Canteen staff from the business department, who are staging the four days of strike action for the London living wage, were joined on the picket lines by cleaning staff who have been left destitute after the outsourcing firm that employs them, ISS, repeatedly missed pay days.

Oh look, another one.
They then marched five minutes across Westminster to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, where maintenance workers, cleaners and catering staff are employed by Interserve*, which is facing severe financial problems and has stopped holiday pay for overtime and sick pay for some workers.
*Interserve - Accounting irregularities over several years discovered 2006; illegal anti-competitive bid-rigging activities, 2009, fined over £11m; 2019 suspended from the UK Government's Prompt Payment Code for failing to pay suppliers on time.

Ah, but for the pinnacle of "privatised' efficiency, look today at what used to be British Steel at Scunthorpe. Bought for £1 by a bunch of 'leverage artists' it stands to go under today, leaving thousands of direct jobs gone, and thousands of associated businesses at risk. And guess who they now want a bailout from ??? Yep!!! The taxpayer. (Betchs the Bast#### have taken their bonuses though). Oh yes, it's apparently due to some fantastic idea called " brexit"

Britain lost it's Empire years ago, and what with John Cleese - the quintessential Englishman having already left Britain, and now Sir Cliff Richard , heaven help us......
