A girl I went to school with moved to England, married an Englishman and brought him back, and she really laid the accent on (I suppose she thought it made her sound posh or exotic). She's a good girl, and I'm not sure what she sounds like now. Some people have a flair for it, like John Hillerman who played Higgins on Magnum PI. Does his English accent sound authentic to you? It was a long time ago, but I think I was surprised when I found out he was from Texas.

Not on here you wouldn't.

There are rules against that sort of thing. We're British. We have standards and they will be upheld.

Oh come on, some of that Lil' Abner dialect in Geordie would be great!

I've gone native. I have a pickup, a Mustang, a US passport, and have been to a number of NASCAR races, all the way from Pennsylvania to Alabama, but y'all wouldn't understand.

There was a show on a few years ago - can't recall what, maybe something supernatural - where the American lead character had a British Valet. A Brit played the American and an American played the Brit. That amused me.

How about Hugh Laurie in House - I have heard Americans swear that he is American.

So far as John Hillerman goes, it's hard to say, because I know he's American, but I think I knew he was American before it was confirmed to me - his accent is just a little too over-blown, so all I will say is "He's more convincing that Dick Van Dyke."

Ditto Damian Lewis when he was in Life - a very underrated cop show.

Dialect! a particular form of a language which is peculiar to a specific region or social group.
"the Lancashire dialect seemed like a foreign language, and they are very strange people too.
