Why Are So Many People Afraid Of Mexicans?

Substitue any state you want, but I live in upstate NY. An unusual number of people are concerned about Mexicans. And considering I'm a short drive from Canada the intensity of worry is a little odd to me.
Why?

They had better never eat in a restaurant in NYC if they are!!!!

I think your subject line is wrong. People are generally not 'afraid' of Mexicans. USC are angry that so many Mexicans, Central Americans and South Americans have entered the US either illegal, without inspection, or have overstayed their visas and remain in the US to live and work.

In Maine for some reason you have to substitute Mexicans for Somalians. They came to the US legally though.
I still think Maine is an odd choice for West Africans to pick as their desired destination.

Canada has the same problem as Maine. Particularly in Ottawa and they ain't happy about it either.

I used to spend November and December, of every year, transporting migrant workers, from "South of the Border" to a factory in Wisconsin.
They were the nicest people you could expect to be around. We had some very good times, and, talked about Football (the real one) and other things too.
Why weren't we transporting US Citizens........they didn't bother applying for the decent paying jobs which were available - simple as that.
Jim.

Immigrants form little networks (ghettos, communities, whatever you want to call them). I'm sure Maine isn't the only destination for Somalis ... just one of many.

A lot of them were taken to Georgia and Minnesota I want to say, but for some reason they all travelled to Maine. Infact in Lewiston, Maine the Mayor issued a statement saying that the City couldn't take anymore Somalis (2,000 had arrived in a short period of time) and he was called a racist. He was actually being quite sensible as the small city's infrastructure couldn't cope with that amount of influx that quickly.
I don't know if they moved here from other parts of the US for family reasons, state welfare or climate. Most of them were asylum seekers.
