Guess who's celebrating!

When they mean a 'large' tax rebate, it just means it's more than £10

I will concede that the only reason I'm here at all is due to my mother's utter inability to handle her cheap bubbly, so that might be one point against it ...

It actually pairs quite well with the flesh of the bourgeois

Today I saw a picture of Spacex's realisation of of a reusable heavy lift to orbit assembly, starship and booster.
Think about it.
Until now, those rockets like the Saturn 5 and Nasa's SLS, are/have been a dead end.
You send a few thousand tonnes off the launch pad and if you're lucky you manage to get a few tonnes back having thrown away most of the hardware in the process.
Today I saw the future. A completely different approach and one that makes all existing heavy launch systems obsolete, in many ways like HMS Dreadnought that at a stroke made all existing battleships obsolete.
I've no doubt that developing the system into a reliable vehicle will encounter armies of nay sayers and obstructionists, but what a vision.
It should have started 50 years ago but today, if I live long enough, I'll witness engineering at it's zenith.
Brought a smile to my lips.

I was up at 4.00am to watch the New Zealand-Australia rugby today. This ad was on at half time.

You might need to set your vpn at Australia to watch.

Getting confirmation that my new hearing aids (with bluetooth) have been ordered and should be in within the week.. (bespoke order, I can't wear off the shelf ones).... SO damn excited! I've been having to use one (14 year old) base hearing aid as my more recent expensive top of the range ones both ceased to work recently (at 9 years old); rendering me deaf and unable to communicate verbally with friends etc., on the phone / on video or in person. It's been a very frustrating few weeks. My audiologist has ordered a remote with microphone that people can wear (to make it easier for me to hear someone in a noisy environment - or to use with my phone, hands free).. and a tv thingy - life will be very different! (now I just have to find the money to pay for them - but thankfully she gave me a 35% discount, and agreed I can pay for them in instalments - phew!)

What made me smile was finding 3 cans of cider in back of the fridge.

For the midwives among us...

Letter in the guardian
I appreciate Alex Scott’s pride in her local accent but not her commitment to its use on every occasion (“BBC’s Alex Scott is ‘proud’ of her accent, despite call from peer for ‘elocution lessons”, News). I was born and brought up in the north-east of England. We were encouraged to speak both standard English and the regional dialect, for the sake of clarity and courtesy.

This bore fruit when I moved from a London teaching hospital to my home town for midwifery training. Under the expert guidance of supervising midwives, I was proud to learn to calibrate according to individual mothers between “Please push towards your tail, Mrs Higgins” and “’Ave a big shuv, luv” to produce the best results and satisfaction of all concerned.

Absolutely true. Though we used "Push into your bottom" not "tail" in Derby.
