Completely agree that the NHS shouldn't need charity, but he's a nice old geezer and it means a lot to him, which to me gives it a point. And far better than the usual political shower that gets the gongs.

I couldn't give a tuppenny about a system that rarely rewards the right people, just those who have others to push their case. As has been said, it means a lot to the old guy, so it's as appropriate for him as for others...... but that's not saying much.

I agree, but in this case I'd argue he got it for the wrong reason, he fought in the war so for me that's enough for a knighthood in itself, far more worthy than someone getting it for acting etc.

I think if you get it for gallantry he checks that box, but when you compare him to other recipients... well, he hasn't written one single pop song..
