It's my idea of a nightmare. Butter is fine when it's well hidden in cakes and biscuits, likewise cheese is positively delicious when disguised in a yummy sweet cheesecake. Otherwise both are plain wrong!

Question for North American members:

What is meant in recipes by "Swiss cheese"?

Is there some generally accepted combination/ratio?

Is that because they can't spell Emmental?

In fairness, American "cheese" is made from wholly recycled material.

They need to work on their delivery system though. Not very green.

It's just that I stumbled on a recipe the other day calling for 400 gm Gruyère and 400 gm Swiss cheese.

Use the Emmental, I suppose. That's a lot of cheese, what are you making, another fondue?
