Should have had the brain surgery instead.

Fair enough. Though you'd think there'd be a better hill to die on than the flat earth, since we've understood the earth is a sphere from antiquity.

I found out yesterday that a lavatory in the US is the bathroom sink rather than the toilet and can't help wonder if I've ever said "I'm off to the lavatory to take a shit" whilst over here.

Hold on, that one's new to me. I guess 'lava' being Latin for 'wash' makes sense, but I've not heard the term lavatory being used at all out here, never mind to refer the sink.

Restroom is always what gets me. Depending on what you've eaten, there's often not a lot of resting going on in there

Wut?

Hope not.. That would make a lot of my past comments much worse.

Ditto "bathroom" when the facility in question is entirely bath-free and shower-free.

That's why I prefer to use the bodily function, rather than the location. "Heading for a shit" is gloriously unambiguous.

As long as you're clear you're not headed to the living room or kitchen.

I feel that would be implicit, but perhaps I am being naive.

All words for the shithouse are eurhamisms. Lavatory is a place for washing, as is Toilet, as is Bathroom. Presumably Restroom was invented by someone who found Bathroom too graphic..... even Latrine come from the Latin for bath.

Loo comes from "Gardy Loo!!" (gardez l'eau!") shouted when night-soil was tipped out into the street, Khazi (or Carsey) - comes form "house" in Polari, and in other languages it's also the "little house" .... many the English second-homer made the mistake of calling their Welsh cottage "Ty Bach" (little house), much to the amusement of the locals!

In irish, leithris is " a place of separation", so not much better.

Only Urinal goes straight to the point (as it were...)

I just realised I coined the word "eurhamisms" somehow. Presumably a post-Brexit euphemism, you saw it here first!!
