Sadly, from my viewpoint, you’re completely right Maclaim.
Brits have been conditioned into petrification about taking this final, albeit ruthless step, to scrap this anachronism, and create a modern State.
On the same day that the (alleged) Govt. announces it’s post-Brexit strategic plan ;- robots, cyber, pharma, etc. (why IS everyone’s smiling like that....?) this bunch of in-breds announce a wedding - and we know who’ll be paying. I struggle to think of any other nation where the head of state makes a virtue of not knowing or contributing to any part of national policy……...
Something’s got to give; - maybe, when the present incumbent shuffles off, the next generation will begin to ask a few hard questions. V sad

Steve, I think you are misreading this! The timing (for the Govt.) is spot on - nothing like a royal wedding to distract the populace - & with a bit of luck she will get pregnant next year, with a due date of, let me see, April 2019 - perfect! Now that is contributing!

So, an early trade agreement -Trump as best man? Will James Hewitt be at the top table?
Oh, dear. looks like I'll be out that day (whenever it is...)

As for poncy continentals, a bit of central / eastern European might have improved the gene pool a bit

Duchess of Sussex is the favourite, but yes, Wills marries a commoner, Harry is to marry a commoner, American, divorcee and even not white. I bet Diana is cheering so loud as to who she brought into this world and the way they are shaking up royal traditions.

Maybe we will be under Spain's dominion again?

Man in very silly hat can't understand thought processes or other people who listen to other men in very silly hats:

Take religion out of the equation, and you genuinely couldn't make this stuff up. (Well, good authors can, in the vein of Pratchett, Rowling and Peake.)

Years of negative reporting by the British press, years of denial of positive EU actions, years of whining by the eurosceptics on both sides of the argument (Corbyn is one too) and a campaign where both sides told lies and they knew they'd left it too late to educate the populace and so didn't try. Plus a good dose of nostalgia, xenophobia and an unanswered concern for the way things are going, coupled with politicians who have minimal traction with the voters ..... all led to a vote which narrowly came down on the leave side.
However, it is not the vote, it is the reaction to the vote where it goes pear-shaped ..... a combination of half-truths, wild speculation and the desire to find a scapegoat for when it all goes wrong wave been the hallmarks of the BREXIT talks.
You couldn't make it up.

Ok so that was a bit of a rant over something that doesn't matter
