My best friend is coming to visit, landing in around 30 minutes! We have an action packed week planned including wineries, quad biking, hot pools and general shenanigans. Haven't stopped smiling about it all day, I feel like an excitable puppy!

Wheels up in less than a week

This time next Tuesday I'll either be standing in line at immigration (though this flight has been trending early the last 3 weeks), or sitting eating breakfast waiting for my connection.

Most people hate airports but I like them, because being in one means I'm on holiday

A quick search shows that the season is July/August, so I should be OK. I'd never heard of those things, they look like a bunch of little shits.

Slightly more worryingly is that both yesterday and the 6th, the 6am flight to Toronto out of O'Hare was cancelled. Flight Aware showed a different flight number operating ORD-YYZ at the same time yesterday (that doesn't usually operate that route) though, so hopefully it was just a flight number change and I'm not going to be sitting at the airport all bloody day. Only two cancellations in the last 4 weeks, both were Tuesdays in September. ****.

Fingers crossed. And they could probably find room for you on another flight if necessary. There can't be floods of people going to Toronto on a Tuesday morning.

No. Actually if they'd get me on a flight to Edmonton instead, it'd cut out a step

But there was a flight that went to Toronto at 6am yesterday morning, just not the flight number I have booked (the only other flight for that number in Flight Aware was a flight from Calgary-Cancun, so it must be a reserve number they use.)

I'll be all right, either way. As long as I make it to Toronto by 10am, or Edmonton by noon, I'll get to where I need to go on time.

Went out to collect Mr Dreamy from the railway station last night.

This little fellow was sat on the roof of the car. I walked around the car, checked the mail, had a conversation with him, told him he couldn't come with me but he wasn't having any of it.

He only decided to fly off when I started the car engine, lol.

I love kookaburras, they're completely nuts and not in the slightest scared of people.

Another chick flown (pushed out of) the nest!

Yesterday I both smiled and shed a tear as we left our elder son at the airport to fly back to the UK for university (Swansea, Chemical Engineering). I never knew you could fill a suitcase with quite so much stuff!

One left who has nearly two years before he too heads out into the big world - I think he'll be jumping out of the nest though, shouting "Geronimo!"

All 3 of mine have flown, although 2 come back regularly for feeding and to have their plummage refreshed; 1 of those is now just about to build his own nest, in a converted chapel. The 3rd (the first to have flown) is potentially on a migratory route back (from Oz), although she'll probably only be a temporary visitor. I felt no huge wave of sadness when they flew -- only excitement for them as they found their wings and added colour and song to their new surroundings.

The Little Lion wants to do Engineering in the UK, too (Mechanical or Marine, probably, but he's 16, almost 17, so it could all change). I would be interested to hear your impressions of Swansea.
