I knew the American definition as well but the tunnels that went under the road were always called subways. I think they were even signed as such.

Same here. Subway was the New York Tube. I don't think the disgusting sandwiches had made it over.

That reminds me, we used to get lovely sandwiches and pasties in the village for lunch. Steerpike was definitely in the wrong area.

I went down the lane for mine. Until my ma found out, then I just walked about town because I didn't have to worry about being told on

When it got too cold I just smoked in the garage. On the whole my ma turned a blind eye as long as I didn't smoke in the house.

We were allowed to smoke at home anyway, but the underpass was perfect for cross-country.

The underpasses went largely unused by me as I rarely had to cross the road at those points, usually I used pelican crossings further along.

I still stuck to my old lane though, usually I'd combine a post-dinner fag with what usually ended up being a 5+ mile wander around town.

Sitting on the sofa, Cat perched next to me with her tail resting on my phone. She's deaf but I just got a text and the vibration under her tail made her leap about three foot off the seat. Made me laugh a lot

Somebody who thought I was a bit down bought me a bottle of Jura single malt today, which was very kind of them - then I had to look up where it's from! The Inner Hebredes, apparently, but wherever it's from, it has been going down a treat!
