I noticed that you didn't have the same sentiment when genetically engineered cows was being discussed here

< edit and snip>

So why are people accepting of genetically engineered pig cells transplanted into people's brains?

Part of the ethics debate (which hasn't happened yet in New Zealand) should examine why genetically engineered cows are wrong but genetically engineered people aren't. Why is one morally repugnant and the other isn't?

Unless this sort of discussion is held in New Zealand it opens itself up to any bioengineering firm looking for willing guinea pigs.

How terrible would it be if the next pandemic originated from a swine-human retrovirus bred in New Zealand, SARS would be a mild case of the flu by comparison.

The first sensible thing you've written for a long time. Thank you for answering my original question: A step too far or good science?

4 people, two of which will need to be controls, isn't enough for there to be any statistical significance in the results achieved.

The reason why this is being done in New Zealand is to establish the principle that xenotransplantation experiments on humans are acceptable and that New Zealanders aren't likely to ask any difficult questions.

It's a bugger when you move something to the wrong place and then don't have the power to move it to the right place again! You don't have that problem though, just us minor mods.

True. I suppose I could have lobbed it around the place a bit more before settling for here.
