I am guessing that El Sisi didn't want to acknowledge they needed external help for something this simple, as they have been managing the Canal for decades. And considering how autocratic he is and promotes an image of being the only person capable of leading Egypt, he has to try and pump up Egypt's reputation because that makes him look good .

This story has been major news, everyone who has been following it is aware the Dutch company was hired to extricate the ship. SMIT is not a small company, they are probably the best known and regarded in marine salvage, having lead the Costa Concordia and Russian submarine Kursk salvage. The CEO of the parent company Boskalis was on TV. Does Sisi think everyone is ignorant?
