Really? How much advertising can be sold on one small page? How many will we have to wade past to get to the real threads? Are they going to start appearing in the middle of all the threads too, as well as at the top and in the space ads all around the page?

Take it easy on us IB, leave us a little room to talk in here.

PS: I don't really want what appears to be food from a British corner shop c. 1972

1972 is about right... the last time I actually bought a Fray Bentos pie in a tin. I remember it was hard to open, because of the non standard tin configuration. The pie crust was good, the "meat" inside less so ...

I actually read the ingredients on Birds Eye custard powder the other day in Cost Plus. It has nothing at all to do with custard - it's just corn starch, with a bit of colouring, sweetening and "flavour". No eggs, no dairy.

Why didn't I think of that as a business idea

I agree, no eggs - but you add the dairy, since you cook it up with milk. Quite nice, with a helping of spotted dick.

Fray Bentos means lean meat. Of course, we didn't have google translate back in those days.

I always assumed it meant lean meat, in Spanish or Portuguese, but apparently

"Fray Bentos (Spanish pronunciation: [fɾai̯ ˈbentos]) is the capital city of the Río Negro Department, in south-western Uruguay."

Agreed. In the absence, in NC, of a nearby village pub with a real kitchen, it's hard to beat a Fray Bentos steak & kidney pie.

I like the way that every time you refresh the page the title of the thread changes. Dead clever and nobody will ever catch on.
