She did indeed do her best to hold on. What an amazing woman. May she RIP and her accomplishments never be forgotten.

She went out as the New Year came in. Many firsts as a woman.

Default RAY’S 2020 OBIT THREAD

I worry about a few of the laws passed while she was there, we know that Trump and allies would love to strike down 'Wade v Roe' and Trump know has the ability to pack the Supreme court with his picks to do just that. Women in the US will be worrying.

Yes - they will - they already are worrying. I was watching "Jeopardy" last night when the breaking news of her death came on. Within minutes I had texts from my two daughters. I have a 15 year old grand-daughter. I really worry about the future of this country.

This thread is for obituaries...it is not a political thread. There is a thread in TIO in which to post political comments about the ramifications of RG’s death.

thank you.

Harold Evans, 92, one of the great newspapermen. From editing the Northern Echo in Darlington he moved to the Times in London -- real rock star stuff to young reporters of the era! I hadn't heard of his passing until I saw a small listing in the NYT today -- apparently he died on September 23. He wrote a wonderful memoir called Paper Chase, which has evocative descriptions of what it was like to work on a local paper in the 1960s.

Sir Harold Evans, 92
