We saw him live back in the day before he became really popular. It must have been early days because it was a venue in Ipswich, Suffolk!
He was funny, and different than most comedians in that era. But to be honest I couldn't really enjoy the show because I was worried all night that I'd left my iron plugged in!

Damn, the stupid things I remember. RIP Freddie.

Just been watching a few of my favorite Freddy Starr clips.
Although I'm not usually one for 'shaggy dog' stories, this first clip is always good for a laugh.

And here he's in fine form doing some of his classic singing impersonations. He was truly a great comic!

We somehow ended up with tickets for the recording of some tv entertainment programme in the late 70s/early 80s and he was the main act. Very very funny man.

Doris Day, aged 97. I credit my life-long love of fringed clothing to being crazy about Calamity Jane as a kid! I can still sing every word of "The Deadwood Stage." She also became an activist for animal rights after her entertainment career.

.... So sad. She was my first Love on that 50's Saturday morning silver screen. An icon who never let the pain show. Even after she was abused by her first husband, robbed by her second, etc., etc. up to number four; - Not a word of smut, or complaint, or back-biting against studio scripts, or blaming all & sundry... she just got on with it and gave entertainment to spread a little happiness.
We're losing them - we are losing the last of that era of Golden Girls, there's so few left. What an Absolute Bummer

Tim Conway, comic, died today at age 85 in Los Angeles. Noted for his off the cuff sketches on the Carol Burnett Show, he was believed by many and his humor will be missed.
