Yeah, I know we're going in a more 'peak' time but we have family commitments and other stuff going on in August and school is back in September and I'm not taking the kids out of school/college for a vacation.

The (+/-) 7 hour flight is a plus, though. It's just over 8 going into London, plus layover and connection. Even with the 2 hour drive from Dublin to Carrickfergus, we're still just about ahead on time

U.S. plans to ban passengers from about a dozen countries from carrying most electronic devices on in-bound flights: official . They better not ban tablets from the UK or Mr Trump can deal with my upset kids.

2 years ago we paid about $1000 for our tickets from memory.

That'll make it a bit harder for the TSA (lol) to search them.

Wimp . You should try flying from NZ to the UK. The time spent flying is 24 hours give or take depending on the route. Then add time travelling to and from the airports and time spent in transit, it's the most horrendous journey especially when you can only afford cattle class .

Despite wearing flight socks I still end up with the hugest elephant feet and ankles at the end of it

It's not fun. Granted I'm never likely to experience it but I can't imagine 24 hours in a tin can is that much better in first than cattle. It's a tin can with crap air and I hate it.

Had a 14 hr flight from Sydney to LA. Then a 6 hr delay at LA...before a 5 hr flight to NY. That was fun.

I flew UK to NZ once, flying first probably made it a bit easier. I had never seen so much food in 24 hours.

Normally flights for me are 16 hrs ish + airport time because of layovers , this is the first time I have been able to fly direct.

Longest I've ever done was London -> Seoul, and then internally connect within the country. Was long, about 11 hours for the initial flight, 2 internally and then another 2 on the subway.

Korean Air to be fair, were great - Ignoring their attempts to offer Octopus as a snack (fortunately they had cookies too). NZ has been on my to visit list for ages, but the flight is just insane - so it would have to be a longer visit than just a week. Also there is stuff to see (Hobbits!).

I *try* and go for a walk between movies, circle economy twice, use the bathroom, head back to my seat and relax.

The only thing better in first is that you can lie down flat and have room to stretch your legs. That would make it worth it for me if I had the dosh.
My favourite route is via Singapore as it's basically 2 x 12 hour flights. Changi airport is awesome, it's well thought out and the staff are friendly and efficient. Las time I flew that route I deliberately planned a 14 hour layover on the way out. Arrived in Singapore at 7pm, checked into the transit hotel, dumped my stuff and went for a wander around the terminal, duty free and butterfly park. Sat down for a Singapore Sling at one of the bars and then headed to my room.

A comfortable night's sleep and a shower before the next leg was well worth it. I was hacked off that the OH wanted to stay in Dubai on our way back from the UK last year

I do that too, do a few ballet exercises and a few stretches but elephantitis still kicks in. It's getting worse the older I get.

You definitely need more than a week in New Zealand, 4-6 weeks would be better

Had to tidy the desk up a bit and shove some stuff over into a precarious spot, but the monitor fits nicely.

Has a tiny bezel and takes up far less space than I thought. It's really lovely.

A Lenovo number. Who knew. Friends and family discount at Bestbuy because the missus works with someone who is also a manager there, certainly helped a long way though
